It’s Big Boi, A$AP, and Phantogram…need I say more? Not much. The track is “Lines” and it’s the latest cut from Big Boi’s upcoming, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, due out on 12/11. I still have Sir Lucious Left Foot on heavy rotation and have been anxiously awaiting the release of Big Boi’s new one. How could I not after the freshest previews of the album were released in the form of, “She Said Ok” feat Theophilus London and TRE LUCE, and “Gossip” feat. Bun B and Big K.R.I.T. (also produced by Big K.R.I.T.). Big Boi has and continues to define hip hop. As usual, he is blazing the path for the rest of the industry. The indie pop/hip hop merger is not a new concept and has been tinkered with before. But while A$AP is doing flash in the pan collabs with Lana Del Rey that bore the hell out of me, Big Boi’s direction with Phantogram makes sense. He got it right and the track is straight. Also check out Big Boi’s “Marination Playlist” below the track. A little over a year ago I stumbled across this video of Big Boi letting us in on what he was listening to at the moment. He drops the hint that he may be working on a project with Phantogram. It’s cool to see these internet rumor flare ups come full circle to actualization. Especially when the outcome is some next level funk. Enough said, lets get into it.
